Your First Visit

You’ve likely been to the doctors and dentist (I hope) but going to a dietitian is something that not many have experienced. If you are anything like me, I like to know what I am getting myself into... surprises are not my fav.

You may be interested in our services after being referred to us by an extra special someone, you may have specific goals that you would like support with, or you are just curious about nutrition. Well, my friend, you have come to the right place!

First off, we are proud of you.

Seeking help is not easy.

Letting someone in and discussing your eating patterns can be vulnerable.

Meeting new people and navigating new spaces can be scary.

We get it and we are here for you. Please let us know at any point if there is anything we can do to provide comfort while you adjust to new settings and situations.

Your first session, whether it be virtual or in person, you will meet with one of our passionate dietitians. This session is like a first date, a Q&A designed to get know each other. Of course, we want to know a typical day of eating, why you are interested in nutrition counseling, activity level, etc. But most importantly, we want to know who you are, your interests, your hobbies, do you prefer Chipotle or Qdoba?, podcasts or music on long car rides? We want to figure out your nutrition love language so that we can offer individualized support.

In this post, I also want to highlight things that we will not do, so that we can speak to those thoughts that may hold you back in your nutrition counseling journey.

We will not ridicule or judge your eating habits. We ask about a dietary recall to make goals specific to you, to your likes and dislikes, to your schedule, accessibility etc. All of the dietitians at Balanced Nutrition LLC are anti-diet and anti-good versus bad foods. We did not come into this line of work to shame people on their habits, heck we are just happy that you are nourishing yourself in some way!

We will not body shame. If you want to talk about body image or body goals, we can do that. We want you to be comfortable with not only our services but with yourself. We do not have to talk about body or weight unless you give us permission. Any weights taken in the office can be done blindly. Do not worry, we will ask, the burden will not fall on you.

If you have any questions or concerns leading up to your first appointment or at any point in your time with us, give us a shout! You can call, email, direct message on Instagram or Facebook.

We are here for you. We are proud of you.

Can't wait to see you soon!
